Course Description:

This class is designed to introduce students to the important topics in Management Science such as linear programming, integer programming, queuing analysis, network flow, and so on. The students will learn not only the algorithms and techniques used to solve related problems, but also the real-world applications that adopt these methods. The students are encouraged to utilize computers in every respect of this class. Computer software is available for this class.

Grading: Grades will be based on the following percentages
Homework 10%
Project 15%
Mid-term 35%
Final 40%

Homework: Homework will be assigned through the semester and will be due in the following class. No late homework will be accepted. Students must turn in their own homework. However, students may work together in preparing their homework. It is strongly advised that students understand and do all phases of their homework assignments and not rely on the expertise of others.

Labs: The teaching assistant will conduct a lab every week after the homework is assigned. The procedures of using OR/MS computer software, MS Excel, will be demonstrated in the labs.

Project: Form each group with 8 persons. Select a case problem that could be solved by the techniques taught in this class. The cases can be found at the end of each chapter in the textbook. Prepare a 15 minutes presentation. Turn in a report less than 5 pages. The report will be due the day of presentation.

Exams: Both Mid-term and Final exams will be in-class and open-book. Each student will be provided with a PC. No notebook is permitted in the exams. No discussion is allowed in exams. Cheating will result in severe penalty. Both exams will last for three hours.
